Mexican Boat & Watercraft Insurance
You are only a few minutes away from printing your own Boat or Watercraft Policy!
We don’t know of any Mexican Insurance Company that can or will sell a Boat or Watercraft
Policy that provides for Physical Damage while on the Water. However, you can easily
get a quote and issue your own policy for Public Liability while your Boat or Watercraft
is on the water.
ACE Seguros is our Mexican Underwriter for this unique and necessary coverage. There
are two products available, and can be written by the DAY or ANNUALLY for Recreational
Use only. Boat or Watercraft Registration is limited to the U.S. or Canada.
There are, as with any policy, exclusions. A few are:
- No Physical Damage, Theft or Medical Payments for Passengers on your Boat or Watercraft.
At the end of the purchasing process, you will be granted an opportunity
to purchase an International Health & Accident plan, a wise and inexpensive
investment.
- No vessels over 175 feet
- No Commercial Vessels
- No vessels over 20 years old
- Racing is excluded, including support vehicles for races
Is Boat or Watercraft Liability coverage necessary for Mexico?
YES! It is the same or similar to the Mexico Tourist Automobile insurance requirement.
You must at least posses a valid Mexico 3rd Party Liability Policy underwritten
through a legally licensed Mexican Insurance Company.
What about my U.S. or Canadian Boat insurer. Do they provide for Physical Damage
to my Boat/Watercraft while in Mexico?
Some do, but most still require you posses 3rd Party Liability coverage from a Mexican
Insurance Company. You need to contact your U.S. insurer for further details. Oh,
and this is always a wise thing to do, get it in writing.
What about insuring my Boat/Watercraft while it is being towed?
You can insure your Boat/Watercraft for Physical Damage
while it is being towed, including the trailer, behind your primary land
vehicle. Just follow the instructions on the electronic application for your towing
vehicle, which is a separate policy. There is no physical damage or 3rd Party Liability
on your Boat/Watercraft once it is detached from the trailer on your primary vehicles
policy.
What information is needed on my Boat/Watercraft to proceed?
- Make, Model, Year of your Boat/Watercraft
- Type of Boat/Watercraft, Powerboat, Sail Boat, Jetski, Seadoo, Waverunner, etc.
- Boat/Watercraft length
- Maximum Speed
- Country Registered
- Registration #
